Hi all, found this with my detector. Rang up nickel with iron tones. Very heavy for size, magnet picks it up. I cut into it and looks metallic. I think meteorite (my first) or am I completely wrong. Magnet pic was before washing it off 20191020_104249.jpg20191020_104126.jpg20191015_094542.jpg

true that some meteorites are magnetic - nickel..., but round...don't think so.
You may have canister shot, being (iron) ??
Anyway, cool find! :icon_thumright:

unlikely meteorite. But have it checked out. I too think it is too round for an outer space piece

Thanks for the input, hard to get pics to describe but it's not spherical. It has ridges and not so round mor flat sides too. It's around a 1/4" and weighs 2 grams

Here's another angle sorry guys, should have done one like this first20191020_132040.jpg

Guess: Almandine garnet with high iron content due to the facets on the stone.

Thanks for the input Smokey, could they be super heavy with iron? Pretty cool looking garnets

I think your instinct for this being a meteorite is correct. The interior looks iron-like. Next you need to take it to an authority. Should not be too hard for California.
