Thought it was part of bullet, but not sure

Ok so at the same sight I found a bullet I found this thing-a-ma-jig. The sight use to be a civil war encampment. Ok the pictures are not the best, but maybe will be able to tell. the outside has markings like the barrel leaves. The end has a dimple in the center and the other side has some sort of fiber, cloth, paper in the inside.

That is a modern shotgun slug.

Hard to tell what gauge without measurements, though.
