I took a couple minutes to hunt over a lot where a house had just been torn down just to see if I could coax anything out of all the nails. I got some modern clad and a few mid 40's wheaties, but nothing too remarkable until I got a nice solid hit and flipped this little guy out. When I first saw it in the clump I thought "Pocket Watch!" but it turned out to be a compact so I just tossed it in the pouch and didn't think much of it. When I got home, I popped it open and found a 1936 buffalo nickle inside! After a bit of cleaning I noticed what looks like a lady with a hoop skirt on the front, and some writing on the back! Also the mirror inside is still intact so that's an extra bonus. On the back : "PATENTED APRIL 16 1924" "TRE-JUR REG. US PAT. OFFICE" "THE HOUSE OF TRE-JUR UNITED TOILET GOODS CO. NEW YORK" I'm guessing it had been under the house all these years which saved it from the corrosion I see on most thin brass here.....
Not the pocket watch I was hoping for when I first saw it, but a nice find in my book, and my first buff of the year so far....
