Hey everyone,

Managed to sqeeze in a few cold hunts this weekend. Weather got up to 40 on Saturday. Ground got it's first freeze finally last week. So not all of the ground right now is soft. My brother and I decided to go and hunt these old foundations again where I found the tip tray and other old items from my last post.

The site is close to home. So it is pretty ideal for just heading out for a few hrs. Most of the time I am driving alot further than this to hunt. The site has been combed over hard. But with some patience we still managed to pull out a few items. Mostly relics but sometimes that is how it is.

Did find one token and a few wheats. My brother got a indian and a nice old good luck swastika token. Site is hard to hunt. Soil has been tossed around for yrs. There are city steps near the place. So alot of trash around. Found a few nice items though. Maybe you all can tell me a little more about them.

One of the buildings may have even been a jail or had a police officer there at one time. Got the really nice Pittsburgh Police button. Marked waterbury. Anyone know the age. Looks like ww1 or ww2 era. Also got the small screw down hat pin I think. Says Mckinney MFG Co pittsburgh pa. Got a neat badge to that says Cheif.

Got a neat Joseph religous charm. Not one I have seen or found. But one of the best finds I think is the old ring that still opens up. I think it is pewter with gold plate gilding. It looks very old. Band is in great shape. Still opens with the hunge on the side. Nice old neat green stone in the middle.

Picked up a nice old pre 1900 I am pretty sure bottle. Seem stops about 2 inches from the top. There are lots of pits around with broken glass. Clay marbles laying around. It's a old area.

Should be able to get a few more times out. Then I am done for the yr. Most of the time I will be able to hunt till after christmas. Then it gets to cold. And the ground gets to hard.

Thanks for looking

HH Jer

That's a bunch of interesting relics! Good you are still getting out, froze almost solid here now, I might find a low forest area to hunt. HH, Mike

Those are quite a few nice finds :icon_thumright: If I find any one of those type of relics, I'm doing backflips...hahahahhaa.......I'm researching more this winter than i have in the past. I hope to be able to find some nice sites to hit.....thanks for posting!

Could the 'chief' be a fire chief? :icon_scratch: Dandy clock face. Was there any manufacturer's mark on it?

Holy Jumpin'!! That's a lotta good stuff there!! I've heard those rings were used for smelling salts in the Victorian era. The southern belles would take a sniff when feeling the 'vapors'.

Thanks alot guys.

Yes, The button with the guy and the sheild is one I haven't found before. Not sure of the yr or date or what it is. maybe just civilian or some kind of organization button.

Relic hunting is alot of fun also. But finding silver is good two. I try to combine them both. Didn't happen this weekend. I went like 15 or 20 trips straight with silver. Then I haven't found any the past 2 or 3 hunts. Different areas I am hunting. Silver is at the parks.

may have been a fire cheif badge. There is a police station nearbye. Plus a fire station. May have been where they were before they moved right up the street.

I thought the ring was victorian also. I wasn't sure if it held hair or a pill or what. Amazing I was able to clean it and still open it. It is delicate but heavy.

Thanks again for the info.

I was thinking along the lines of a snuff ring, which would be similar.
Cool finds to say the least.

just when you think your season is over, here you go again posting all kinds of sweet relics :hello2: that police badge is nice and I like the square token :icon_thumleft: job well done my friend

really cool Jeremy! :icon_thumleft:

I believe the mark inside the ring says that the ring was made after 1950.

Those are some really neat finds, you did an excellent job of cleaning them up. Looks real neat displayed there.

Thanks alot everyone.

Glad it wasn't over yet. My wife is really gonna have me working and doing chores over the next 2 months until I start hunting again. I do a ton now as it is lol.

Been another really good yr. I accomplished some finds that I hadn't made in the past yet. Got close to 100 silvers on the yr. Took three months off also for kids baseball season. Had some really good spots lined up reasearched. And alot of them panned out. Just a great hobby to persue.

I take alot of time cleaning items. I look forward to restoring the things I find at the end of the day. Finding it is just half the fun for me. Making something bad looking to something really nice is a great feeling.

Hope you guys follow my post again next season. I may get one more post up before 2010. Good luck to you guys next season.

That's a lot of great relics, Jeremy. I like the skeleton key and that ring. Also the square token.

That site may still have more.

I know what you mean about cleaning up the finds. That has become part of the fun for me, too. I like to enjoy everything I find, even some of the things people normally wouldn't want. That is why I liked the story about the card tray you found. Somebody thought that would be a beer can... heh. Turned out to be one of the coolest finds.

Tonight I dug what I guess was a hub cover from a car from the 1940's or 50's (I think). Some people might throw that away, but I thought it was cool.

Maybe the hard freeze will hold off for a month or so, and we can both dig some more stuff. ;D

Keep those posts coming.

HH,
Chris

Thanks Chris,

Yeah the site does still have more. A little slow for my liking though. I've got geared into digging more than swinging. So if I am swinging more than I am digging it is time to move on lol. Pretty much done with serious hunting for the yr. Probably get the chance to get out a few more times before it's all over.

Got a nice park that now it is died out. Could go and hunt it the next few weeks. Get some late yr silver and maybe some relics to. This park is so big that you can't get to every area in the summer. There is a small window to hunt this place when it is all died down. You really have to push through some brush to get deep into the place.

But every winter I do it gives up something nice. Yeah I also get excited about the type of finds my buddies want to throw away. I've saved so many cool relics at the end of a hunt. My buddies would be ready to just throw away old silverware compacts etc. Makes me wanna cry. So they give them to me lol. Then I make them beautiful and they want them back. I really like the history of a old relic.

Take care man

Jeremy
