Went to the place where they were replacing the sidewalk again. They had removed a few more feet of the walk so I thought I had better check that area also. This is the same area that I found the seated dime yesterday morning. Searched the area and found nothing, had a few weak signals but could not pinpoint them but dug anyways and had empty holes? As I was walking back to the truck I noticed that they had removed some dirt from the area and had it in a small pile or strip at the back of the building. I decided to go over and check this dirt and thought I had another dime. The signal was not of a dime more like a penny but the size was right but it was covered in crud and I did not want to scratch it. So I placed it in my pouch and did a happy dance back to the truck. I soaked the dime for quite awhile in lemon juice and water mix to loosen the dirt today. I must have soaked it too long as to my surprise when I got it cleaned off I had lost 7 cents somewhere? I was not even sure I had a coin as I had never seen one of these before. I looked it up in the redbook and there it was a 3 cent piece 1868.

I am hoping they continue to replace the walks downtown. Come to think of it the road looks like it could use replaced also? :dontknow:

HH,

Dave

Thanks for the replies, I was not disappointed when I found out it was not a dime. Although I had high hopes for another seated dime.

The one thing I have learned the most so far in my short time at this new hobby, you can never predict which sites will give up the oldies and which will be nothing but trash.

Hope all are finding something interesting on there hunts.

Dave

All good dectorists say " Always check your Pile of Dirt and your hole again" Nice find, yet to find one myself.

Sweet find. You sure have a great area to hunt keep watching for more of that sidewalk getting moved. Never know what is under the next section....Matt

I must say, I am pretty envious of the recent finds I've seen by T-netters. That is a fantastic 3 cent coin. That and a 1/2 dime find are still on my wish list.

Wow what a nice mistake. Congrats......

Congratulations on your 3 cent piece! And like stated above, that was a hilarious "short changed" story!
