Hitting an old rail town town today, found this. Any ideas? It's has a spring on one end, a clamp I assume was for a cable and another springy piece of metal on the bottom. Any help is appreciated !!!!

looks like a ground clamp from a welding cable.

Sorry, I have no idea. probably every since they have had electric. would not have to be from a welder. Could have been a grounding cable for something else.

I’ve seen those used, one on each end of a long cable to temporarily maintain the electrical connection when a railroad rail is removed for replacement.
