This year's first CW Breast Plate AND 2 Reale 20 minutes apart, New Pics!

hello all,

I went back to the same spot from my last couple of postings.. the best I had done so far was a nice scabbard tip, bullets, a few buttons and a broken gold ring.. well.. not more then 15 minutes after getting there I pulled an eagle plate.. pretty much on edge at about 6" or so!! Pretty happy.. my first plate so far this year.. after a lot of shotgun shells.. I finally got a good high 70s VDI.. bouncing around a little but shallow and that I thought it would be a three ringer.. I was within 20 feet or so of where I dug some the other night.. well.. pulled the plug and there was most of a silver coin in the bottom.. I swear I thought it was a SLQ by the way it looked at first.. so I plucked it out and like an idiot.. lightly brush the dirt off.. only to realize it was a reale... ;-) turns out to be a 1780 2 reale!! so two first for the year!! I also dug a huge pocket knife at about 12" in the ground that still had the wood on the handle!! It started to fall apart as soon as I pulled it out, the back side dropping off back into the hole. Also found the metal tag or ad for the soap?? No idea on that one.. and one fired Garner. My DFX popped low bat on me the last 20 minutes or so... so I decided to call it a day..

PS: For the record.. my new laptop is a Asus Eee PC and the freaking keyboard is tooooo small!!! Typos galore!!

PSS: Updated title to be clear it was a standard round eagle plate.. not a buckle or sword plate!!

New Pics at bottom of posts.. just some I had on my cell phone.. had to send that almost live update from the field to my digging buddies.. ;-)

Nice finds. I found a pocket knife myself today. Would have rather found that reale or eagle plate. none the less I am still happy about my knife. I bought a pinpointer today so I was very anxious to get out and check it out. Thanks for posting and sharing the story and pics. Good luck in the future.

True.. but i have a workstation in my home office.. plus 3 servers, routers.. switches etc... I run a small wireless ISP on the side and after killing 3 "real" laptops in the last 8 years... I went with a small, lightweight CHEAP one this time.. just tying to get use to it.. I have to admit the little netbooks are powerful enough.. i even run Photoshop CS2 on it well enough to process medium size photos.. the only upgrade i did was popping in an additional 1Gb stick of ram.. and it runs a long time on the battery.. I ran it over 4 hours last night at a non-profit meeting and still had 68% battery life.. not bad for a laptop in the $300s.. just the keys are too close.. hit two at once sometimes.. ok rambling on.. but this is my easychair or workshop PC.. that's about it until I need to take it to a client site to run test.. perfect for all of that..

Me too!!! Every time I dig an eagle plate I always do that "slowly turning it over" hoping for some arrows!!! I don't remember seeing one posted on t-net?? Has there been and I missed it?? This got me thinking.. I did a quick count of the types of plates I have dug... running a 3 to 1 ration on Eagle/Breast Plates to US buckles..US Buckles and cartridge plates about even.. and a 11 to one ratio between Breast Plates and others... sword, 4 piece enlisted, SNYs... etc... not counting any other.. ah.. different plate or associated brass.. i.e. sling buckles.. rosettes.. frames.. clip corners etc... purely based on the statistics.. i am "due" for either a US Buckle or Cartridge based on the last two years of digging... out of nine plate only one was a buckle. Ok.. that's all just the laws of averages i know... but man.. hoping it works out that way!! Hmm... maybe i should not have had that Starbucks on the way home!!! ;-)

LOL, those are some Fantastic finds!

Seems like my ratio the past couple years has been heavy on the Sword Belt Plate side (3 to 1 of anything else). But I think that's because I hunt areas where lots of cavalry enlisted.

Great stuff! Even though it's one of those same old eagles again  it is a REALLY NICE one!

Best Wishes,

Buckles
