I have been borrowing a friends Minelab Explorer SE pro recently. He saw that I have been looking at some higher end machines, and he offered to let me use his SE for a while to see how I like it. I am learning the machine pretty well. Found 6 wheat pennies with the machine in the first week, and this weekend I managed to find 3 different silvers. No they all weren't coins, but they are still all firsts for me. First I found the UT Expert Typist Pin on the weekly Thursday evening hunt with BerntOut. Marked on the back Sterling and Patd 1926 UT. Not sure what UT is, maybe University of Texas Saturday morning I went to a courthouse park in a neighboring county. I dug my first peice of Silver Jewelry, .925 Sarafin Silver Pendant, with some kind of brownish reddish stone (Tigerseye??). Then today Bernt, the boss, and I hit up a freshly Demo'd house lot and I managed to dig my first Mercury Dime 1944S down about 5 inches in the little grass strip next to the street. No silver or wheats were found anywhere on the lot....not sure what that was about, but the lot was freshly scraped, so the true back and front yards could have been under 5 inches of caked dirt.....who knows. We all dug some clad, mostly newer cents. Looks like I hit the edge of the Merc with my lesche , and I might have hit the little UT pin as well...... Me thinks the Explorer is a hell of a machine!! I'm sold on the Minelab over the Whites V3 for my kind of hunting. Anybody have any ideas on the pin?? I'm really interested what the UT on the pin means.
