This weekend's nickel box
I just finished a nickel box I've been slowly searching since Friday night since I was lazy on Sat. and I didn't go out and get more boxes for the weekend (I should of just bought another nickel box on Friday). Anyway I did find two silver and more pre-'60 Jeff's than usuall (51 non-silver) including a '50 (no D) that was in the same roll as a '44P. I thought that was kind of interesting because when I found my 2nd '50D nic last Xmas eve I also found a silver nic in the same roll.
I also found an interesting German 1950 G 50 Pfennig Bundesrepublik Deutschland that is a little smaller than a nickel and I researched and discovered is only worth maybe a $.25 or so but there is a slightly different coin with the same date/mintmark (1950G 50 Pfennig BANK DEUTSCHER LANDER) that is worth hundreds of dollars. I was getting a little excited doing the research until I figured out I didn't have the valuable coin - oh well.
So here's my list of finds from this box:
1 - '43S (obv. ender)
1 - '44P
51 - (non-silver) pre-'60 Jeff's including:
1 - '40s (small s)
1 - '41s (small s)
1 - '47S (mintage: 24,720,000)
1 - '50 (mintage: 9,847,386)
1 - '51 (mintage: 28,609,500)
1 - '52S (mintage: 20,572,000)
1 - '54S (mintage: 29,384,000)
1 - '68S (looks like it's probably proof)
3 - '09P (mintage: 39,840,000)
1 - '09D (mintage: 46,800,000)
1 - German 1950 G 50 Pfennig Bundesrepublik Deutschland
1 - Canadian 1985 5 cent
No buffaloes in this box but I checked the date of the last no-date nickel I found and have been soaking in vinegar for a couple of weeks and it's a 1918.
I'll probably be searching a few more dime boxes this week till I (hopefully) get my first half boxes on Wed. I ordered these boxes the week before Xmas - good thing they aren't the only bank in town. But the boxes from this bank have been producing pretty good so I hope this weeks boxes will have been worth the wait.
