Trust me, they are colonial coins, but they are certainly not eye candy :laughing7:

Saturday I went out to a field where I found 19 coppers, 6 Spanish silvers, and 2 early US silvers last year. This field is at the point of diminishing returns, but I had a hunch that an area that hadn't been hit that hard might be holding a few things, and I was right. All the coppers from this field are toasted pretty bad, and after digging the first two coppers, I was hoping for a silver coin so I could at least see some detail. Toward the end of my hunt, I got a signal that was reading mid 60s on my F75 and holding steady. I knew I had a good chance for a half real, and I was right, The bad news was that this coin was beaten almost beyond recognition - easily one of the worst half reals I have ever dug. The smaller copper is a KG III and the larger is a KG II. I could see the busts when they are wet and the light hit the right. The half real appears to be 1781 or 4. The last digit is tough to tell.

The other picture with the 1882 Indian Head and two buttons are from a short hunt yesterday. The place I wanted to hunt was still in beans.

Condition wise, not exactly choice. Potential wise , based on what you've pulled before, sweet. Since you're still getting them, a good one is still waiting for you. Besides a beat Spanish silver us better than none, and finds are still good. The button in the last pic does remind me of the obverse of $1 US gold coins!

Nice going Steve. Looks like your season is starting out on a positive note. And now you're already 1-up on me in the colonial silver dep't.

Waiting for this field to get plowed Ironhorse. I know there are some more silver coins in this field and a plowing might bring them closer to the surface. I was thinking the same thing about that button - looks like it was modeled off the $1.00 US gold piece.

Gotta love getting the colonial stuff. Sounds like that field has been very productive for you. Hope you get a few more after the next plow goes through.

Cool finds - do you know the history of the area like what might have been there originally to have given up this many coins?

Steve, those thin reales are susceptible to plow damage as Buckleboy encounters. Very nice finds and still more to come from that site. Were you very sore after that dig my friend? WTG, Q.

A super site with that many coins, and super for silver with one for every 3 coppers. That's pretty rare...it's "richer" than any I've come across. With copper coin so od it is just natural that many will look like that, but that only means a good one is coming you way soon.

Agree with IH that the possibilities are still good there

My ratio is the exact opposite. I've dug 150 colonial silver coins, but only about 40 coppers. And about 30 of those are Virginia halfpennies.

Toasted or not, I'd take finds Like that over clad any day. Congrats and way to keep impressing with awesome digs.

way to steve! hows the wrist feeling?

way to steve! hows the wrist feeling?

Thanks Dave, after about 3 hours on Saturday and about 1.5 hours Sunday, the wrist started acting up Sunday night and gave me a lot of trouble for about 12 hours or so. I was worried maybe I pushed it too soon. It's coming back around now and starting to feel better. It's pretty frustrating to tell you the truth. I guess I'm gonna have to ease back into it slowly.

Thanks Quindy, yes my wrist acted up on me Sunday night as I mentioned to Dave. I was also sore in other places and it's getting a little frustrating. I'm just gonna have to fight my way through it and not over do it.

This hobby is hard to take it easy when you enjoy it so much. It wont be forever, hang on! Great finds. Congrats.

Yes, don't over do it! Relic season is just getting started...and you've already got some awesome keepers to show for it!
Congrats
Nana
