Today I went to a Confederate campsite in between Camp Lejeune and Wilmington, NC. The property owner advised that his property had been hit hard by MD'ers since the 1970's. He suggested I try the yard of an old house next door that he was the trustee of. Five hours into it I finally joined the ranks of CW bullet finders. It was about 6 inches down peeking out from the plug I had dug. The property owner advised that it was an Enfield. My first CW dropped bullet being an Enfield calls for a beer tonight. Returning there tomorrow. The nice folks next door gave me the green light to MD.

Contratulations on the first bullet. Indeed a great feeling!

Thanks and yes Sir! I was dancing a jig once I stopped shaking.

Congratulations on your recovery! :icon_thumright:

A careful eye study of the inside cavity at the base, may reveal a numeral or letter marking, often associated with Enfield bullets of the period. Some of the more scarce letters or numeral markings, can certainly increase the rarity for collectors. If there is instead a rather odd appearing piece of wood in the base cavity, please note to leave that intact, as the original boxwood plugs are quite desirable as found.

@ RR: Thanks!
@ CC Hunter: Alas no wooden plug was present when I found it. I will be mindful of this fact though in the future. I have looked inside the cavity but do not see anything in regards to a makers mark. I am almost afraid to put a wet Q-tip in there and see if there is a mark. Even if there was, this is a keeper for me.

Very sought after bullet! :icon_thumright:

Thanks Birdman. A three ringer will make me happy too!

Good shape with nice color, too.

Thanks. Amazing to think that no one handled it for approximately 150 years. Makes me wonder what the name of the soldier was and how he came to drop it. It's weight amazes me. I could not imagine being hit by one of those!.

Awesome!! CONGRATS! Thanks for posting! :icon_thumright:

Thanks! I figure sharing is good. In reality we are all history junkies. I love history and love sharing it.

Re: This time it is a CW dropped bullet. Papa Bear

We share something in that my very first Civil War relic was an Enfield. I was like you. I thought the thing was huge. I showed it to a buddy and asked him if this was the real deal. They are so heavy. I would hate to get hit by one dropped out of a tree, let alone shot. Congrats, I like the color. Keep us posted you are in a good spot.

Papa Bear don't be afraid to clean it out, and if it had a letter or number mark in the bottom you will see it very easy sense it is a drop .
That is a nice find and I am glad for you. Go back and see if you can find some more items so you can post here for us to see.
