Rock or meteorite?
I picked this up years ago at a house sale. There was a collection of rocks from a geologist who had passed on. I have never been able to determine what kind of a rock or meteorite it is.
It's very heavy for it's size. Weighs just over 3 lb. Measures approx. 3" tall by 4" wide. It is a dark maroon color & the top is very smooth. I get no reading with my detector.
Any help is appreciated,
ant.

Intersting!

Go to the TN home page, scroll down to the "Meteorite" forum.
There are some good links there with field tests to help ID meteorites.

Smiles!

Being heavy for it's size is one poossible clue but,
the first thing that seems to come up in the Meteorite form is the question:
"Does a magnet stick to it?"

Dg39, the color is dead on. I even balanced my white filter.
Thanks for the info Bobbydoo. I started to check the links.
Wetgreenie, no, a magnet doesn't stick to it & my detector doesn't register metal on it.
