✅ SOLVED This part of a gun?

Found in central Ma at cellar hole site.Was about to throw in scrap bucket and noticed some etching,so cleaned a tad and this is what I got.Believe brass.Dont know alot about guns but thought maybe from one.?

looks like a musket side plate to me. And a VERY nice one! Likely early post Revolution era American made... I don't think I've ever seen a nicer one dug, or posted here....

Googled what you said and see some with close shape and hole pattern,think you nailed it,thank you!

Not military, but very patriotic in design which makes me think it's early post Revolution when that type of design was really popular.

Great find, are you finding anything else in the area that might be related, like a gun lock, or butt plate, or trigger guard etc.

Area didnt have alot of signals,nothing else was found close by.Just glad I didnt throw this piece in scrap pail.

That's a side plate for an early musket/fowler, nice find!
