This one has me baffled

I found this in an area that was settled in the 1730's; I have found 18th and 19th century relics there.

At first I thought it was a collapsed cow

bell but it doesn't have a loop at the top so I ruled that out. The profile view shows the odd shape of the front side; it almost looks like some sort of figure is molded into it.
 

Looks like a cow bell. Maybe the missing loop is why it is in the ground

I still don't think it's a cowbell. I doubt there would have been a ring above the rounded part at the top; besides it would not have been deep enough for a bell if the sides had been flared out.

I know this sounds crazy but it looks amost like the figure of a monkey, with some sort of square object at the bottom.

That one I would definitely have in a bucket using electrolysis.
It's like looking at a cloud and guessing what it looks like.
