... but for all I know about fishing it could be the portside framastat from a UFO.

I dug it up on a freshwater beach, about a mile from a sailing club.? My other guess is that it's something off a boat, because of that.? I'm leaning towards the fishing weight theory because of something I saw on another forum, but I sure could use some help on this one.

Colin

Almost forgot - it's solid lead.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, GoldFever, I don't have a scale that would measure something that size. Being made of lead it's fairly hefty, but that's the best I can do.

Now to go looking to find out what in the world a drawstring weight is.

Once you get enough people together there's almost no such thing as a question that can't be answered. That's the great thing about forums like this one.

Thanks for the help.

... And This Might Be What It Is.

I had a visit from a friend today, someone who'd seen the pictures posted above. Once she had the whatzit in her hand she told me that yep, it's a fishing weight. I couldn't figure what anyone would need with a weight that big for fishing in the Ottawa River, but she told me that it's not a weight for fishing with a pole - it was used to weigh down a net.

Ahhhhhhhh.

This was like having an itch you couldn't reach to scratch. The relief is wonderful.

I think you had it right the first time.? It's obviously one of those things that aliens use to do their probes.? It's not lead it's exanozite, an artificial metal that is reactive to temperature and moisture, givng off readings that can only be interpreted by an exanozite scanner.? These probes were first used by aliens in the early 1950's and several were found at the crash site in Roswell, NM.? These probes were tested extensively on dozens of U.S. Army volunteers by Army scientists during the Korean War.? They laid the ground work for the current military policy of "Don't ask, don't tell".? The only remaining exanozite scanner is in Area 51 and the entire base was built around this scanner and the resulting testilng.? It is believed by leading authorities on the subject that the goings on at Area 51 are not top secret at all rather it's just that no one wants to admit that their entire work day consists of being probed by some weird looking alien.? Instead of a Christmas bonus the employees all get a year's supply of Preperation H in a plain brown wrapper.? I can't tell you what the exanozite scanner has revealed as the results themselves are top secret.? I can only attest to the authenticity of this information , except of course, for the part I made up.? JIM
