This is what happens when you don't go to church on Sunday...

I'll let the pic speak for itself...:'(:'(:'(:'(:'( :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: It now seems obvious that the big man upstairs is mad at me and has chosen a most fitting punishment. What makes it REALLY bad is this is only the second seated coin I've ever dug, and it looks like it's in VG to F condition, too. At least I didn't nail the '61d Roosie I also dug (an obvious consolation prize if ever there was one).

Yeah, this one is gonna hurt for a while...

That might not be the only thing that happens to you if you don't go to church on Sunday! What is missing. CH--CH?

I would think god would punish you more severely than giving you silver you know like 50 pull tabs that sound just like silver

Are you talking about the scratches on the reverse ? if you caused them- why are they so dark?

That's just the way the ding appears in the photo. I take pics w/ my webcam since I don't have a digital camera. The angle and lighting make the scratch appear dark, but it's fresh :( ... believe me I wish it wasn't but it is.

My "church" is the out of doors where I go to hunt. I go to church, every time I go. :)

Excellent find! A scratch cannot change that for you.

HH!

Still a nice find

I feel ya! Dug a VF-EF 1905-S Barber dime this past Friday and did the same to the front. Woulda been a $30 coin, besides being the oldest silver I've found this year! Good thing it wasn't a 1904-S!

Toss it in the collection plate in church next week, and maybe you'll find a sack full of mint 1874-cc dimes on your next detecting trip.

On second thought, maybe just keep it and pray for the sack of dimes.

Hence, your handle....

JK, man. Nice find, still!

Wow I'm jealous! :notworthy: At least you got the backside! You can only display one side at a time...that would look good on my keeper shelf. I'll trade you a whole pile of memorial pennies that have no scratches!

You know back in the 18th/early 19th century in some churches! if you fell asleep in church service they would go outside and get a dead skunk that they had tucked away outside & put it on a pole and hold it up to your face for 5 minutes.... True Story..

Shame on the scratch, but a nice find. I think you might be a bit conservative in the grading. Looks like it's easily a Fine and more likely a VF.

Definitely display this lovely lady! :icon_thumright: Don't hide her away in a drawer.

As to HutSiteDigger's tale of skunk in church, the churchgoer would've had to be comatose rather than sleeping not to wake up much quicker than 5 minutes, lol.

Taking another look at the picture, that appears to be a very old scratch that has toned over and filled in with dirt. Are you sure you hit it with the shovel?
