Banner? Great find!!!

A hundred years ago I worked for an officer's club at a military base. An old retiree came in regular, and somewhere after the mid-month period, he'd come to the office and leave his $20 gold piece. Anything he wanted was put on a tab. At the end of the month when paychecks came out, he'd come in, pay his bill and retrieve his $20 gold piece. It was his insurance.

Stupendous find!

One could wounder what bills were in this thing so many years ago. A satchel maybe. Did you see any signs of old paper with this item? It was truly a great find.

Are they snaps or rivets? If they are snaps, I'd say it's an old leather money belt, and the buckles came from the two strips that went around the waist.

They are snaps. I had thought about it being a money belt.
