I found this in an area that dates from colonial to present for artifacts. It looks like the iron is hand forged, but I could be wrong. One end has a hole in it and the other has the remnants of a screw. I believe the handle is wood encased with iron. The bent ends at first reminded me of a curry comb as I found three or four of them there. Any thoughts? Thanks...

Looks like the tip of a pruning saw .. saw would attach to where the hole is.

That is the second time I have heard that guess. Could very well be right. I still have to think on it a little, not quite convinced....

Although not exact, it is pretty hard to say it isn't the base for the curry comb unit. I suppose that could make it replaceable? I would expect the comb part would break, wear out, get stepped on, and it is cheaper to replace the head.

I'm leaning back toward a curry comb. I've never seen one with such a large handle, but if you look at the top picture, the three rivet holes are neatly identical. Plus, I have found several CC there already.

That sure looks heavy for a curry comb, and from your photos, it appears as though there is no offset in the handle.
Guess it could be, but I have never seen one like that.

I know you found it with other civil war stuff, it reminds me of a wick holder to light a cannon, where it is attached to a long pole

Here's what I am thinking... I cleaned it up and I now believe it is a curry comb that had the handle broken off and then "field repaired" with a different type of handle. Notice how the curved iron on both examples are very similar to include the positioning of the rivet/screw holes. The one on top (in question) has had a square nail driven in the top in an attempt to tighten it up on the replacement wood and iron handle. Looks like something I would try :tongue3: So... if there are no objections I'll green check it. If you think I should leave it open, I can do that as well. Thanks for all the help!
