I finally found my first LC last weekend and it's been killing me to find out the date on it.I've tried Don in SJersey's Peroxide method (4x) and have a little better detail on it but not enough. It's definetley a Matron Head(1816-1839).I have been playing around with the color's and contrast etc. and this is probably the best I came up with......I swear I see a "4" at the end,but who know's for sure.Any idea's.....or maybe another method of cleaning to at least see the date.Thank's and HH!!

It doesn't look like there is anything left to clean, if the detail is gone it's gone. Probably time to move on to finding the good one!

Sad but true, many large cents and colonials are that way and nothing can replace what has been wiped out by years of being in the ground and corroding away.

I get some like that also, just nothing else can be done but be happy if you can even get an ID of what the coin is in the first place.

As someone stated...there may be nothing left to see.
As a last resort you could try fingertips and brasso.

Don't use electrolysis either! I found a decent 1907 V Nickel and ruined it. Monty
