This is an artillery piece of some sort, but what is it?

Only clue is USC anyone know what that is and what this might be used for?

Is it hollow ? it looks like something electrical to me . oh well at least I can bump it to the top for more exposure.

Nothing about the piece says "artillery" to me.

The letters look more like HSC.

looks HSC to me too , looks electrical , screw on the bottom looks to be for a ground wire.

Nothing under them. As someone pointed out they look like potential wire connectors, they thread out. The middle hole is not threaded but the cylinder is overall solid aside for the hole.

You should really try some pictures from a normal position...

The whole hanging upside down photo's tend to confuse me. :P

it sure looks like an electromagnetic solenoid to me, but I can't find one like it so who knows ?

HSC=Hammar & Schmitt Control Co. They do produce solenoids and other electric controls...haven't found a matching pic yet!
