This is a really dumb question

Do you mean "Coin Roll Hunting"? If so, you buy large amounts of coins from the bank or other sources, usually rolls of half dollars. Then you break them open looking for the 40% & 90% silver coins. Once you take out all the "Keepers", return the rest of them to the bank and do it all over again.

RMac,
There is not really a dumb question one can ask except "Does this dress make
me look fat??""LOL
Coin roll hunting is where you go to the bank, and buy up several rolls of coins.
You then open them up and see if you can find some older silver coins or some key dates. One guy found a $10.00 gold piece in a roll of quarters.

I believe you mean coin roll hunting. It's where you go to the bank and buy rolls of halves, quarters, dimes, etc. and search for silver coins, key and semi-key (more valuable) dates, etc. You pull them from rolls and replace the pulled coins with common ones. Then you take them back to the bank and exchange them for more and repeat the process.

Start with an amount you think you can handle losing. Sometimes you might find some nice coins other times you wont.

But you never lose anything... not really... you just convert cash to coins... you still have the money! The draw is, you might find silver... It's not a gamble.

easy ----coin rolling or CRH is taking money to the bank and buying rolls of coinage and looking for valuible coins --- normally silver dimes ,quarters and halves 1964 and before (90%) silver (older large silver dollar type coins if you can ever find them) -- also 65 thru 70 halves only (40%) silver --- wheat back cents are also collected as are buffalo nickles --- you sort thru the change replacing the good coins with common coins -- then cash out the coins at a "dump" bank for money ---repeat over and over ----the cost to do it is only the replacement cost for good coins at face value so basically it cost nothing to do it but time spent sorting coins ---- since the coin will aways be worth its face value and if silver is worth much more than face value its a great way to bankup a bit of cash via the scrap valiue of silver coins --- your buy bank and dump bank should be differant to avoid getting the same coins all over again --- thats it in a nut shell ---good luck --- Ivan

Not all banks will order boxes of half dollars. All of them have the capability of ordering them through their armored car company, but some don't just because they don't feel like it.

The only tellers that give you a time are the ones that are just plain lazy. The fact is that its their job, and if they complain about it, its about time they changed their career.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

There is only one person on this board that could have said it more eloquently, but he isn't due to be released till after the New Year. ;D (my buddy pat)

What exacting is "coin-rolling"? And how does one go about it?
First off, there are no stupid questions, just dumb answers.

Here is the definition of CRHing.
You go to the bank and ask for half dollars. Oh yea, we have $325 worth. Woo Hoo, score. The excitement builds as you get closer to home. As you open the rolls, you notice funny little marks on the rolls. Finally dumping the last roll of clad, you wonder, where is the silver? Welcome to the world of dumps. Keep buying, dumping, buying and dumping. Every so often you hit a few 40’s, Ben’s, Lady’s or a mix. Just when you are ready to throw in the towel, a dream roll pops up. Dream rolls are solid silver. A full 40% roll is exciting. A full roll of 1964 Kennedy’s, Bens or Walkers or a mix of all 3 is awe inspiring. That my friend is CRHing. The highs and the lows. Are you ready for this E-ticket roller coaster ride? If you are, hang on tight and try not to scream...............

Mac.....looks like you have your answer........good luck to ya. Keep us posted.
