This is one of the coolest things I've ever found. It's also my first 18k gold anything.
I'm totally stoked.
There's something rusty wrapped around the ring. Maybe the person had it on a chain around their neck or??
I wonder how long it took to do this.
I think it's an Aztec design? It looks like a bird.
It might be a bakelight material the bird is sunk into? I don't have a clue really. It's black like onyx.
I've hunted this area over and over and over again. And over. I've been digging up all signals for months and it's paying off.

Congrats and -- WOW! Great ring! Possibly the wearer had wrapped wire around that encrusted area of the ring to "re-size" it smaller so it wouldn't fall off. If so, he didn't tighten it up enough. This week I eyeballed a modern cent at the edge of the surf encrusted against a flat pebble and with the entire center of the copper coin gouged out, I guess from wave action. Whenever I finally learn how to post pics, will show what that oddity looks like. But your 18k ring is groovier for sure! Andi

That is so completely cool! Great find!

That is awsome! congrats on a steller find.

Now that's an Uber-Groovy find!
Is the "growth" iron? (magnetic)
Or is it like, whats left of a finger?
Just wondering...........

Funny!
Nope not a finger. I just noticed that third pic down looks like a fist grabbing onto it.
Yes it's magnetic. I hadn't thought of trying that.

Nice find. Are you going to remove that crusty crap?

Thats definately an extraordinary find! I would leave it as it is. It is so much cooler with the Rock/Crusting intact. Its such a great conversation piece!

I'll answer Mercury and Gemini at the same time here.

I think I'll leave the ring as it is. I totally agree that it's quite the conversation piece. I may never find one like it again. I think I'd regret cleaning it.

Good enough. I was just curious because some people's finds clean up so nicely but understand leaving it as is. HH

I would leave it as is too, congrats!

Hi GY, I would love to see the pix of your find. To post them up they must be resized by right clicking on the pic thumb nail and go to "OPEN WITH" then click on MS picture Manager. When the pic shows up go to the tool bar and click on "Picture" then "resize". reduce the size using the options available. I use 640 x (can't remember the other number. Then save it. Up load the pic on the sight by using the "Manage Attachments" button.
Oh yea I think your spot on about the ring and the wire thing.
