This detector That Detector

I am new to this forum and I hope I am not out of line when I say -stop the madness- stop worrying if your metal detector is the best on the market or if it will pull a signal from china. Instead of doubting it -learn it .enjoy the fresh air and land you are on . you can have fun and enjoy the hobby with just about any detector you can afford. some will say bull crap to that statement . I started with a cheap radio shack model, granted depth was not very good but God did I have fun and I'm still having fun. To me its about the thrill of the hunt ,I still get a rush when I get a signal and have no clue what it is until I dig it. To me mding is like gambling -you never know the out come until the day is over. The really great part is eight aa batteries only cost me $4.00 for 12 hours of entertainment, unlike the slots that eat up coins faster than any beach. I now own several metal detectors and can take any one of them and have a great day. Enjoy the hobby and remember somtimes you dont even need a detector to find treasure . If you think you are going to dig an item on Friday and quit your job on Monday this is not the hobby for you.God bless and for Gods shake keep swinging that coil.

Enjoy the hunt is the way to go is the only way to go. Many expect to find lots of old silver and gold. When they don't find it as fast as they expected, they are hunting for a new detector that "goes Deeper." Some POS companys or catalog sales promote this and it gets the newbie customers with the cheap machines that fall apart before the month is out.

Should they buy a book or magazine to learn how to do the hobby, heck no! That would be taking away from their profit. ??? :o ::)

I agree! I have a relatively inexpensive Radio Shack model and that thing goes 6" easily. It has found the tiniest piece of scrap tin foil and I was surprised! I have not been disappointed at all. I went to a beach last weekend and met another MD'r. He showed me his fancy MD and, yes, it was kinda cool because it actually told him what was buried in the sand. For now, I am having more fun with this hobby than I have ever had! Just like any hobby, you try it out first to see if you like it, then you can invest more into it.

The best part??? I have lost about 5 lbs since the holiday's with all this walking and bending I have been doing!

Amen! :D
The slots are quite hungry indeed.. ;D

Being a child of the '60's, I must say, "RIGHT ON, BROTHER!" It's great to have the thrill of finding something, but being outside in the woods, behind a school in the woodchips, or in the park does just as much for me! Case in point, read SHERMANVILLE, ILLINOIS posts! There's a real TH'er for you, having a ball being in the woods, searching, being alive! You just have fun! Ya find something - it's icing on the cake!

A great post, Porkepork. A lot of us, after getting caught up in the hobby, can become more obsessed with searching for that "super-dooper deeper detector" than just enjoying the hobby for what it provides: exercise, thrill of the hunt, and peace of mind.

I got caught up in the fever myself, buying a detector 3 times the price of my first ones. The result was 6 months of unhappiness; this high priced mongrel finds no more than my Garrett Ace 250. :-\

True but it's like fishing - you can reel in fish with an old Diawa gear driven spinning reel and a fiberglass pole or you can reel them in with a multi-ball bearing titanium reel with a graphite pole. The analogy has holes in it but you get my point. Having the right tools just makes the hobby all the more enjoyable but it can be enjoyed with whatever you have. :)

You can crawl, walk, ride a donkey, a horse, a wagon, a bike, a car, a van or a motor home to go to the store, they will all get you there, it just depends on how quick and or how comfortable you want to be getting there.

The thrill of the hunt, is what it is all about and what I enjoy.
