This coin appears to be gold???

This gold coin was found in a field. Can anyone identify it? It appears to have a small eagle stamped on it.

It is definitely a 1-piece brass flatbutton, missing the brazed0on loop from its back. That type, with an eagle as part of the backmark, dates from the latter 1810s into the 1830s. They typically were goldplated, but I don't see much gilt remaining in the photos.
