So, a recent auction had an piece on the cover Of their advertising that is similar to a fine piece I acquired years ago. It had some slight damage to the base and I did have it restored.
I brought it to the auction so I could compare them in hand.
This it it here.

this is it laying next to the auction advertising. The piece for sale shown actual size. Over 4?s

personally I liked the flaking on my piece better. And mine doesn?t have the obvious re-sharpened edge.
as the bidding went higher and higher, my heart sank further and further. The piece went for $14500.00
This is mine before restoration.

Not sure how to delete duplicate post. Thought I just edited and got a second. Maybe a mod can remove one.

I like yours better also! I can't believe that other went for that much?

I like yours too and I have restored a few broken tips (had a pro do it). Whoever bought that piece was just plain nuts. Maybe nuts isn't the right word. I don't know what is though.

It is a very desirable piece and I was totally surprised. Bidding stopped at 10k long enough I put that number down on my bid sheet thinking it was done. But it took off again, I can assure you it did sell for that much. It out did the nice Folsomā€™s that were sold by far.

What do you think made it sell for so much? Many of the points posted on this site including many of yours are as good or better.

Here is a sample of what sold that day. This point in question in the bottom row, it really stood out. Also, the collection had top notch provenance, and came from a highly respected Individual.
Iā€™d also venture to say, there was some serious collectors with deep pockets and a desire to own the best of the best.
I doubt there is a nicer example of the type out there available. It was typed a buffalo gap, the material is KRF and was just short of 4 inches. A very respectable size for the material and type.
This was by far the highest quality (partial) collection Iā€™ve had the opportunity to see and handle, and Iā€™ve been to more than a few of them.

Well, good for the ones that can afford those great artifacts. Keeps all our stuff more valuable I'd say. I've got deep pockets too but they've got holes in the bottom!

Yes, it does help get the value up.
lol, I know one older gentleman that was hunting and collecting some prime areas when It was still legal. Iā€™ve seen him at a few auctions.... Heā€™s not buying, but he sure is smiling.
