Been reading posts for about three months. Finally purchased a Minelab Excalibur 1000. Wanted to throw it out the first day. After reading some other posts about settings, I went back out and found eleven coins and a broach with 20 diamonds. I only hunted for about two hours. Too bad the broach was fake. It sure did get me excited when I first found it. Thanks to everyone for the help. Without the posts, I probably would have given up on the detector.

I'm in the same boat as you. It took me quite awhile to learn the machine. I've only got about 15 hours detecting now, but each time I go out I find more. I'm glad I stuck with it. It's nice to be outside for any reason.
