Hey folks
I am thinking of getting a new water machine after 20+ years.
I have two Fisher 1280x machines and am going to sell one.
I would like some help trying to pick a new machine.
I have a Etrac and love it,and am thinking the Excal might be a good one for
fresh water lakes.
If anyone has one and would like to chime in that would help more
then you will know.
Thanks

Not sure how to answer this one. I use a Tesoro Tiger Shark and a Detector Pro Headhunter Diver. Both are great detectors. The headhunter diver has all the controls on the headset, which takes a lot of weight off your arm. I have found many silver coins in lakes with it and I also found a $6,000 1920's mans ring with it in a lake, in over 5 feet of water.

The Tiger Shark is a Great detector also. When others can't find small necklaces with their detectors, the Tiger Shark will. I can't tell you how many necklaces and bracelets I have found with this great detector.

I had a Excalibur water detector and it also is a great detector. But I'm in my 60's and unless you hipmount the detector, your arm will fall off trying to swing it in the water. They have made many improvements on this detector and it is a great detector in the water, just not for me.

I have a friend who hunts with the Fisher 1280 and he still finds lots of rings with it. I can't believe you would want to sell your backup 1280.

Good Luck with what ever detector you choose.

I acquired a 1280X that had hardly any use in a trade. Is there something I need to know about it? I traded a Garett underwater machine for it that was a PI machine. The tradee needed it for underwater diving while I only hunt freshwater shorelines.

Thanks guys.
my two 1280's work great I just thought
that a new machine might be able to go a little deeper
then the 1280's do.
the 1280 is as solid as my mother in law :laughing9:
and I have found tons of nice stuff.
I was just thinking a little deeper might get me more goodies.
thanks

If you want deeper, a PI Machine is the only way to go. Garrett makes the Sea hunter II and I had one after reading so many good reports about it. I went to a club water hunt with mine and I was picking up targets that wouldn't even register on the other club members machines. They were all using Fisher machines. But you don't have hardly any discrimination on a PI machine. Monty

IMO it depend on wether you are going to use it on salt water beaches or fresh. In fresh water a CZ20 0r a excal would be good, in salt water a PI is best if there is not too much iron .The best vlf for salt water especially on the west coast with the black sand, is the Excal. with the CZ20 second . Multi freq detectors seem to work better in salt than single freqs. The Tiger Shark is a good detector but not much better than your 1280. All of the PIs are good, but you may want to consider the Detector Pro PI. They work good and are reasonably priced and best of all are very lite weight. they also makes a lite weight vlf detector with all the electronic in the phones. Any single freq vlf isn't going to be any improvement in performance over your 1280. JMHO>
