Found this at the 18th century mansion I've been hunting today. I'm no buckle expert by a long shot and would appreciate your help with this. May not even be a buckle. It's small 1" x 7/8th. The center post on the reverse side appears to have been peened like you would expect to see on on a larger item done by a Blacksmith only much smaller.

Thanks! --Bill--

Hello Gypsy Heart,

Thanks for your time in researching this, it is appreciated. I think it comes close to the "Knee Buckle" you show but I wish I could see one up close with the guts still there. The mansion I'm hunting goes back to 1774, so I believe it's possible. I will let you know if I'm able to come up with good confirmation on this or not.

Thanks again!

Its not a typical knee/boot/garter buckle as the cross bar & spikes were tubular (hollow) in manufacture. I see no indication that it has lose any spikes (teeth). Can you see any signs of breakages?

It maybe something like a hat type buckle with a simple ribbon threaded throw the bar??

Better pictures may help.
