it's totally unbelievable that detecting can still happen at this time of the year !!!

we have been lucky enough not to be "experiencing moisture" today, and the good temps lately had thawed the ground

my only real find today was silver spoon with no visible makers or standard marks, it has some design and engraving, and it is from nice early colonial site

since the trend was spoons lately I thought that it all fit in nicely, hopefully there's another hunt left for this season and more silver shows up !!

The I L A stands for I Love Antiques! :tongue3: Nice silver find. jgas

Nice spoon...I just learned from reading Crusaders post on Vpone's spoon that the top letter is the surname (last name initial) then the bottom left is the initial of the husband's first name and the right is the initial of the wife's first name. Thanks Cru for the education.

Another nice colonial silver spoon! I have only dug one nice colonial silver spoon.

That's a beautiful Spoon.
I dug a pewter that had the scallop in the same spot.
comments on the post thought it was EARLY Colonial.
Hoping the same for yours! Great Find!!

so many mangled coin silver and silver spoons lately! :icon_scratch: including 2 i dug in the last month :dontknow: what's goin on here? :icon_scratch:

That's a great spoon it's called a shellback , shell back spoon. Some of the other designs you'll see are an urn or peacock , the peacock is called a birdback. They are very desirable spoons. A great colonial find.

Nice one! I must have fifty spoons but have never found a solid silver spoon yet! :icon_scratch:

0 for 50? Don't let it get ya down. But look again, not all silver is marked "sterling". It could be marked 800, 90, "pure coin" or "warranted".

A fake "warranted" got me once. It was stamped, not embossed.

Congrats everyone on the spoons! I only found one (sterling) this summer.

I started a colonial silver spoon thread on the Best Finds forum to try get all these neat spoons in one thread.

great spoon... must be spoon month...found 1 too...

A day of rest, and I'm ready for another. Let me know if the ground is still ready to go, and when you are! :headbang:
