My Dad used the .30 caliber M1 in World War II. When he returned in 1945 he used the rifle for hunting, and I imagine many others did the same. I believe after the last bullet is fired, the clip ejects. I will question my Dad when I see him on Tuesday... Nice find...Could you explain about the prison camps?

So is the part i found disposable or did people reload it? on the site it says issue date: 1939 and the prison camps are WW2 so that makes sense. I dont think it is hunters that dropped this because of the location i found it. Nope, didnt get the rug mudy, but you should see how muddy the car was :o :D

Any ideas? looks familiar for somereason ::)

HOLA JAKE:? They have id'd it correctly for you.? It is the clip for the Garand 30 cal. M-1.? I used it in the Pacific.

The clip was ejected after the last round, a serious fault in one way,? since when it was ejected it made a "clangy sound, also when it hit? the ground it made a distinctive ring..? The enemy would just listen for either then he would know that for a brief period you couldn't shoot and so make his move - prob cost many a GI his life.

They came preloaded, and of course, the Gi could "reload" them from any 30-06 ammo available.
