Could it be related to your peg leg post (link below for those not familiar with it). It sorta' looks like something that would have been used to support injured limbs in a medical setting. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,121642.0.html
As always, I could be be way off base.

To small, though I can see where you are coming from. A trapezee is much larger to allwo two handed use and all of them I have seen are triangles.

I think you were right the first time, it's a thing-a-ma-bob. I've seen those before. They also go by another name, whatcha-ma-call-it. ;D One thing for sure, it's definitely not a doohicky.
