On the beach on the SW side of Okinawa, Jp (East China Sea).

I tried to scrape it out, but it's rusted in there pretty solid.

If the main piece is solid maybe try soaking it in white vinegar and see if it will remove the grainy part. I dont think it will hurt the other part if its a solid mass.

How much does it weigh?

Ever see a KUSARIGAMA they use a weight at
the end of the chain.

Some have metal , stones , bags, etc.

The weights even for a Kusari-fundo can be
2-4 ounces

There is another mark to the right of the S in the
tape measure picture.

Japanese don't have Iron resources, early iron was
made from magnatite, pretty sure it wasn't a bouy
marker that they threw in the ocean or a fishing
weight. It takes alot of time to process magnatite
into iron.

I searched a few hours through the Kamon crest 5000+
Kanji - Chinese, Japanese, etc.

No where did anyone ever use a "Circle with a S"

I thought maybe the stone was the "Circle" and
the metal was the Crest design, it does not show
in any Kamon crest.

Okinawans used a "Surujin" same design as the
"Kusari-fundo" and were more common to use rocks
as weights using rope and chain.

Japanese culture had so many weapons bans the
Surujin and the kusari-fundo type weapons became
common as they were easy to conceal.

Might be that the stone and metal are not even
from that region, and brought by travelers.

I even searched Indonesian, Indochinese, etc.
never found a mark that correlates with what you have.

It was fun research to say the least.

Good Luck

Shaolin monks don't even use those marks and
and they showed up quite early in Okinawa.

How long should I do the vinegar soak? Also, it's about 2-3oz.

So I soaked it for about 6-8 hours, with no impact to the metal or stone/ceramic part. I did get a closer look and the spot to the right of the "S" is stamped/carved "5" - slightly smaller font, but the angle clearly shows it as a 5 instead of a second S. Anyways, thank you for looking into this - I'm going to toss it in with all the other random unidentifiable items that show up on beach hunts!
