Where could I get a silver eating acidAlmost looks chewed on it's so bad.... once everyone chimes in and if you're still stuck, apply a silver eating acid for a minute or two, rinse, dry, and repeat. When the metal is pressed in the die, the deeper parts of the coin are a little harder than the high points (more compressed). The acid eats the softer parts a little faster and it can leave an image behind.

Totally. Not sure what version but I see 1775, and those hooked 7’s are very distinctive. I’m in very southern Wisconsin and if that’s what this is, it’ll be the 5th Reale of some kind that I know of that has been found within 100 miles of me. I haven’t personally found one and don’t expect to, but to know that they are around is mind blowing. It’s just not something that’s even on the radar around here.Maybe 1775 Half Real?

it is 17mm. Looking at the features after the acid bath I am sure it is a 1775 half real. Thanks to all for the help.Certainly looks like that acid trick helped. Might want to check the diameter but certainly looks 1775 Half Reale-ish to me. http://njenjoy.com/nj-news/nj-copper-coins/
