It looks sorta like the remains of a glass faced button. Is the edge rolled or cast?

Hi Creskol,

It appears to be rolled, but it's not terribly obvious right now as it's going to require a little more cleaning. It's approx 1" in diameter. Thanks.

This is sorta what I envision.

I think that is a real possibility, though the lip seems to be bent tightly down onto the disc, so I'm not sure how it would hold the glass unless someone purposely flattened the disc with a tool. It seems that what ever made the hole, came from the flat side to the lipped side. It seems like it was a rather large hole--approx 3/8"...seems bigger than what may have been caused by a shank being pushed through by someone stepping on it. Too bad the hole is there as we have lost some critical detail.

It looks like there is more metal there than it takes to fill that hole.
So it must have originally had a hole with a flange.

I was thinking the same thing and was wondering if it didn't have a back like this reconstruction of his buton.

Taz & Creskol,

You guys are good. I didn't even notice that there was excess metal there. Very nice reconstruction Creskol. I will allow a bit more input and then mark the thread solved as I believe you have id'ed it correctly.

Best, Erik
