An old site near me has recently been slated to become a park, and to my sadness they flipped all the soil, including tons of garbage metal that had been dumped on the site for years, mixing the relics and the garbage hopelessly together. I did try detecting there to no avail. It's ruined. However! Nearby the site there was an abandoned house for me to check out (circa 1957) so I figured I'd at least be able to find something there.
To my great surprise I found 3 quarters (all clad) and almost thought I had found my first silver (the 1965 quarter pictured). Near an old sink-hole from a tree I got a strangely long and strong signal, so I dug it. 6 inches down I hit something, and brushing it off while still in the hole, I thought I'd hit an old sprinkler system! Argh! But no, it had an end, so I pried it up and this is what I found: A made in Boston hose nozzle. Took it home, rinsed it out, and would you believe, it still works like the day it was made. It still had the rubber washer inside it. HAH! I've ID'd it in a vintage brass site already. It's my first relic. Oh, and that's Tribble, my photographic/relic inspector/supervisor kitty.
