They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

The weather has warmed and the ground has thawed finally. A friend came by to inform me the foundation I have been trying to get at was brush hogged. YES! That was last weekend, I had been waiting all week for the sun to thaw the ground, Saturday looked like the day.

I arrive at the site thrilled at what I saw, all the prickers and huge tangled vines were knocked down and pushed back. I was ready to dig! Got my first signal started my hole, heard gun shots, dang! They were pretty far off (sortta), so I grabbed my clicker to my car, honked the horn 3 times, just to let them know I was there. Go back to digging, now the shots are closer, once again I honk the horn 3 times. The only season open right now is Crow, so what they were shooting at I have no clue. Next thing I know the shots are sooooo close I about jump out of my skin. Now I can see them, I know they can see me, my car, and my bright red hat, they continue to shoot. >:( I guess I have to pack up and get out of there. >:( I'm really not happy about it but off I go fuming that I have to give this up after waiting all these years to get in there. AS I'm driving off I see their truck, think to myself they wouldn't shoot their own truck? To heck with it I park right next to it in the field, mess around in the field digging can slaw, and wait. ;D Can't help but know they are coming, shots fired, ducks flying off, I see them in the distance so I start to head towards them to see if they MIND me going back to the foundation. (I know I know. Like the Hubby says, leave it to you to show up at a gun fight with a knife! :D ) All is finally clear so off I go!

I was happy with the digs. I have only touched the surface so there will be much more to be unveiled. What I didn't know about my brush covered site was there were 2 silo foundations on either side of it. Nice!

Finds, a hand saw blade, a cow waterer that says CLAY (found a catalog for Clay dated 1928), a double fith wheel hitch for a wagon (should have seen me dig that out :D), what I thought was a small file at first look, that turned out to be a nice little knife. Bunch of melted stuff, nails, the usual Junque.

Enjoy the pictures!

Boy! You had some day! I don't know how I would have reacted to people shooting off guns but I think I would have left somewhat sooner than you did. You were lucky that your site was cleared and you were able to go back. Hopefully, you'll start pulling out some old coins and other relics on your next trip.
Happy Hunting.

Looks like a fun spot to hunt sis, glad you finally were able to get out there...maybe next time you won't have to bob and weave as you detect!

Re: They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

Those fine gentlemen with the guns appear to be squirrel hunting. Squirrel hunter are my heros since the squirrel ate the ignition in my car! I should say the recently departed squirrel that ate my ignition. Looks like a really good spot and interesting things you dug up. Monty

Great looking finds Country girl!

Lonewolf, Letter opener? I'm fairly certain it's a knife with the beveled blade and sharp point. But I've been known to be wrong before.

John, I probably should have gotten away from there a tad sooner, but I am a bit stubborn and it was a LONG winter, so I couldn't give up!

Sis, next will be an uninteruped Sunday hunt, no hunting on Sunday. It was a fun day.

Monty, Those fine gentlemen can hunt whatever they want, when ever they want, but not on my time. :D So what is the score now? Last I recall Monty 9 Squirrells 0.

Camperlee, I sure hope a coin or two pops out. I really don't mind the relics, it's a fun dig.

Allen, Thanks! And I wonder why the Hubby worries? ;D

Thanks Folks!

CG, next hunt there will be a much better one for relics and maybe even a coin or two. The vines almost look like Wisteria type vines, they usually make the homesteads in our area a tad creepy looking until they bloom, then the smell will knock you out! Good finds for your first hunt of the season.

Walk those fields and look for pottery shards and glass. There will be old homesteads close by. Usually on the edges of the fields and ridge tops. Walk those woods on places flat enough for a house. They lived close by.

Re: They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

those shooters were stupid. crows will see them and not come close, squirrels are way smarter and they will hide in the next county. guess they just wanted to hear the sound of their guns.

I think you did real good diggin  Next time you're there, you'll pull something that will make your day.

good luck

Nice finds, CG!!

Re: They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

Don, The vines just may be Wisteria, I never noticed the smell before, I'll have to pay attention this Spring. I'll be spending a ton of time down there. I am excited to find out what is even deeper at that site.

Randy, The other foundation is in the woods beside those hunters, the field is loaded with pottery and glass shards. I've come home with some nice coins, relics, farm machinery, lots of old lead pipe. Thanks!

Davest, I agree, I have no clue what they could have been shooting at? I did see a flock of ducks fly up after they shot once, but it's not duck season. :icon_scratch: Thanks for the well wishes, it makes my day just being there diggin'. :)

Thanks Niel!

Re: They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

I'll bet digging those finds kept you busy for a while! ;D

Nice finds!

Can't wait to see what else you unearth there...

Re: They cleared my site for me, and I wasn't giving it up!

that dished piece with the holes looks like it was part of a cattle/horse waterer. the animals would push that down to fill the waterer and drink their fill. then when they were done water pressure would shut it off.

Crows?

That's what I call fighting for the rights to a spot. You are very tenacious.
