Found in an old area. Dates back to civil war. Obviously rim fire. Found 3 so far. I got around .283 cal inside (where bullet goes), about .325 cal outer, and about .375 cal on the bottom part (where rim strikes) I want to know the make and age. thanks
Union Metalic Cartridge Company purchased by Remington in 1912. Possibly for the Stevens 25-10 which was a rimfire cartridge. Sorry, don't know the years of manufacture on that gun, but 25 is the caliber and 10 is the grains of black powder, which would seem to indicate late 1800's. Stevens arms were sold by Sears and Roebuck.
On a bullet casing's base, an indented letter U represents the Union Metallic Cartridge Company, which used that indented letter-marking from 1885 until approximately 1920, even though the company was bought by the Remington Arms Company in 1912.
