I had a business trip and managed to get out for a little while just prior. I had 2 hours on one evening before the storms rolled in back at my old colonial site and I managed to dig another 12 musket balls of various calibers. It was slow at first until I got into another little pocket and unfortunately the storms began rolling in. Until that, I had only found one musket ball and a few brass tacks. At the end, I had 12 musket balls of various calibers, two buttons (one big tombac did not make it out of the crust complete), two broken early buckles and a piece of pewter that I swore was going to be a cob as it read higher than most pewter typically does.

The next day I managed to meet a good friend and explore a stretch of river (more like swamp) that I have been meaning to get to for some time. It was slow, but steady slow for the day with the occasional bullet here or there. We did get into one hot spot where he recovered a nice US cartridgebox plate and a pile of bullets. he was kind enough to let me join in and dig a few bullets as well. I ended up with 14 civil war bullets for the trip with my best being a nice dropped C.S. Richmond Lab Sharps (I do not have many of these bullets).

Total for the two trips (about 10 hours of hunting) were 26 bullets spanning over 200 years!.

As always, I had fun. We are heading on a vacation and then a 4 day camping trip with my bud Beau again to do some more relic hunting!

HA HA - love the poetry. Ill see if I can post a pic of his US plate. The cool thing is that the first spot (round balls) are all Rev War...should have entitled the post "Lead from two wars" or something corny like that.

Bullet lead beats fishing lead! Lol! Nice finds!

Hope your vaca is relaxing and rewarding!

Great hunts IMO.
Really Like the RL Sharps.

Only dug 1 dropped one myself.
Don't see to many of that type dug in my area.
The guy's at my Club did not say a word about it either.

Heck ..I like it lol.

They are not common bullets. I bet I have maybe a dozen total out of the thousands of bullets ive dug.

Nice spread of lead! With all of the rain we've had how does that impact your water hunting? I was going kayak on the Pamunkey last weekend but it's super high flowing pretty fast.

Nice bunch of finds.

Oh, and don't drink the water.

Congrats.

Fantastic saves there Dan! You had a couple of awesome outings.

it has been a horrible season for rain...you dont want to be in the water on a rising river...think of all the junk that flows into it from cities. Ive been cut in half from what I normally get due to the weather...

Great relics as usual, thanks for sharing!

Steve

Nice, Dan! Do you think your buddy found the remains of a cartridge box? (Plate and bullets) Or just a plate and some random bullets?

Very nice collection of lead, buttons and brass tacks. I guess those are Williams' that are still intact? Ever have any bad stories with snapping turtles to share? I always think about them lol.

Congratulations on the historical recoveries.
