Wherever there be treasure!
Detector(s) used
Older blue Excal with full mods, Equinox 800.
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Now I see what some of you are talking about....they were at NSB today, place looked like a tightly arranged mine field and not a single hole filled back in. It was so bad people and cyclist were going clear around the entire sections of beach these two guys were leaving in their wake. Learned later this evening that they are locally known as, "The Wrecking Crew." Now I know why. Never saw anything quite like it before. Geeeezzzz.....:laughing7: :BangHead:

For Whom The Bell Tolls - It tolls for thee.

It is just a matter of time till New Smyrna Beach and other Beaches in the path of "The Wrecking Crew" are not only closed to metal detecting, but to all who do not reside there: surfers, fisherman, swimmers, etc.

The above two selfish individuals, whose real identity is locally known, will continue to do what they want without regard for others until they are held accountable for the damage they are causing.

Anyone know a local official of sorts who would speak with them. I am assuming plenty of detectorist' have spoke with them already. It would not be good to ruin it for everyone else. SGC is right, once this beach shuts down detecting, the ones to the north and south will do the same. Nothing worse than folks who care only about themselves. Best of luck helping these two folks understand what they are doing.

As no man is an Island, Beaches are for ALL: {those who are fortunate to live there as well as those who are not as fortunate}

Detecting is more than a hobby for me, I salvage out of the need to supplement my retirement income, which is not enough to get by. I follow the recommended guidelines and ethics for metal detecting as it is mutually good for all who rely on the water for recreation as well as to earn income.

Hope is not acceptable option, if beaches: { local, county, state, nation, world} are to remain open for the use of those who do not reside there.

Luck depends upon actions taken or not taken.

I strongly believe that the action(s) of these individuals are deliberate and they understand the impact of what they are doing. To them, the less competition the better. They will continue their devastation until it becomes too painful for them to continue in this manner.

I suspect that these are stealth hunters, who hunt at night (most likely) or sunrise when no one is around to witness their devastation.

Judging from the lack of response to this thread the assumption the plenty of detectorists have spoken to them already may not be true. It is alarming that so few detectorists have even taken the time to reply.
