Named this new field after the Village it runs along, it's a big 200 acres & has no intel on it. (ie. cropmarks or archy research) However, on Monday we took a 1 hour scouting mission & in my previous post I stated;
''Nothing special on our scout but we had plenty of signs that we need to return for a big grid. So very encouraging.''
I thought we might get a Elizabeth I or later hammered & instead we got everything but.
I picked a spot to do the big grid & 5 mins into my first run I got a hammered. Amazingly I had put us on the sweet spot because at the 1.5 hour point we had 5 hammered. After 6 hours gridding I had 6 hammered & Cru'dad had 1, we think this equals our best 1 day total, & I'm pretty sure that me getting 6 beats my best total.
51 buttons & we were already at 900 this year which is higher than some total year end results.
They were drilling the next door field, so time is not on our side, if the weather holds we may just get 1 more go.
Masses of lead, the most we have dug in a long time, plus plenty of junk. Feeling a little beaten.

Livery Button, Tudor Button, 17th C Button etc..
Large Late Medieval Spout with Beast Head
Medieval Lead Spindle Whorl
Lead Cloth Seal
Spec Buckles
Clog Clasp
Coin Weight
Silver Brooch
Near Blank Victorian Sixpence
7 Hammered:
Unknown Short-cross Penny
Ed I Penny
Ed III Farthing
Henry V Penny
Henry VII Penny
Henry VIII Penny
Unknown York Mint Penny

Fantastic finds again🇬🇧

Looks like there was something sure happening at that site.
Possible fair ground, gathering market of some sort.
Congratulations on all the silver.
The bottom right the Edward?
Great looking spout, a really nice addition to any display.

You certainly picked a sweet spot! Is that a neolithic piece I see?

You and Cru'dad were definitely busy. Congratulations on beating the hammered record for a day!

Actually I wouldn't call this a Site, as such. Not strong enough signs that they had any period of habitation. (other than Georgian/Victorian demolition spread from the nearby Village)
Not a Fair Ground or Market area either for a number of reason's.
These hammered are spread over hundreds of years & are mostly fairly worn. Pretty sure they are associated with farming activity. We like seeing lots of Georgian period buttons because it shows the land was worked in that period & in our area, if the soil was good enough for them, then it was good enough for hundreds of years before.
So like most of our good fields, they were just farm fields.

Bottom right is the unknown Short-Cross, bottom left is the Edward III Farthing.

Its a wet stone for sharping the scythe's from 18th-19th C (maybe even later).
