I'm sure Ermal Fraze had no idea what effect his invention would have on the treasure hunting fraternity.
It started innocently enough. In the summer of 1959, Ermal was at a picnic, and he'd forgotten his church key. He had to use a sharp part of his car's grill to open his beer can!
Well, Ermal ran a tool and die shop, and after the picnic he went home and began working on a design for a self-opening beer can.
And three years later, Iron City Beer introduced the world's first pulltab.
