Had a plan to burn up the site today, but if things can go wrong they will. These are some photos of the small field I have been hunting. This man owns 1,000s of acres and this is the smallest oneView attachment 879988View attachment 879995
90% of the fields have been just plowed or harvested, and I will tell you that La. soil does not disc like this Ms. dirt. You can not walk on hard clumps of dirt that is big has footballs, without killing yourself. Any way I found just a broken polished celt and some worked stone.View attachment 880013View attachment 880014View attachment 880019 I was all pumped up to find the mother lode today, just to be let down with the shape of the fields. You have to understand it is 75 miles one way to this site. Then in the middle of the field I spot an object that is round, sticking out of a pile of dirt. I picked it up and thought it was heavy for an artifact, I wipe some dirt off and then realized what was in my hand. I thought I was going to wet myself. I did not know if I should throw it down and run are what to do. This is what I foundView attachment 880025After I caught my breath I took my keys and dug in the bottom and found it was not a live one. I got home and cleaned it up and did a little research, it is a practice grenade (Thank God). You just never know what you may find some where.

Super cool, I would display it proudly.

Also next time I would bring along a detector, just think what else might be buried.

I keep my MD in my Jeep, but man that's a lot of swinging to cover that ground, but I have found signs of an old home site in a couple spots, I may try it there.

I dont know what I would do but digging in the bottom wouldnt be the first thing, lol. Id probably throw it.

The grenade is a weird find for sure. Was there a military base nearby at some point in time? Here is a live one that I found a couple of years ago along the creek bank. While it did not have the means to throw shrapnel it was fully capable of exploding. I contacted the Sheriff's Office and they called in the state police bomb squad who came in and blew it up. I'm thinking that someone from the local National Guard brought it back from training and lost it. It is intended for training only. BTW, it sure was loud when it went off. Like a half stick of dynomite!

There is no base any where close, the nearest town that has a guard unit is 50 miles away, this site is in the middle of nowhere. There is a small community about 10 miles away of maybe 2,000 people. My guess is a guard unit came there one time for war games. What you found is an artillery simulator ,you pull the cap off the stem on the side, pull the string and it sounds like a in coming round and then it blows up. They throw them around you during training in boot camp and war games, and you are right I knew a lot of guys that use to take them for fireworks and other redneck things. You can do a lot of fishing with those things.

I remember them from when I was in the military and that's how I knew what it was when I seen it. I called it in because I did not want to get caught walking around with it and sure did not want some kid to find it either. You know, I never thought about fishing with it!! lol. Maybe next time!

That sure is allot of field to cover. How do you find the artifacts in a field that big anyway? Im sure they must be scattered.
