The Track-Way Site - Day 6 - 2 SAXON SCEAT...

On Mondays detecting day I had not slept in 2 days due to back pain, then on Tuesday after only sleeping 3 hours I went to the Doctor's. Turns out I have Shingles. I'm just glad I saw someone in person (rare now), they got it right first time & gave me the right meds. It's nearly better now & I was glad to get out the house.
Started off frozen & it quickly started to defrost with the sun out all day, hoovering just above zero but I had to take layers off.

5 Hours gridding;

4 Scrappies (1 pierced)
3 Livery Buttons
2 late 18th C Militia Buttons
Spec Buckle
Medieval Strap-end
Tudor Strap-end
Roman Hair Pin

Gaming Token
2 Saxon Sceats - Both fell to Cru'dads coil this time

Never thought we could say we are on a Sceat Streak; 1,1,2.....
Already on 5 for the year!

It was bloody painful, the worst of that is over & I'm sleeping normally again. Still hurts a little & the rash/spots are clearing up slowly.

12 inch turn will do that to a field. 2 have been surface finds, so could have come from deep & they only need to be about 4 inches before they are out of range.

Cru'dad thought the pin was silver to begin with, its got the bluey-green patina that normally comes with some Iron-age finds, not seen this patina on any Roman Pins until now.

Maybe recycled bronze with that special alloy? We had it once on a roman patera handle Ilona found. She thought first it was blueish painted farm equipment. So smooth and blue. It came from deep after the farmer vented the field with a 40 inch tooth.
