Time for Cru'dad to get his long awaited Silver - a very rare Sceat we need, after less than 20 mins on the first grid line up to the Site. It was lying on the top! I got the other Sceat from the Track-Way Site & Cru'dad got the hammered. Good team effort & a great start to the year.

WOW! That is probably the best one posted up yet. (Must be the design) Really liking it. Congrats

Anglo-Saxon England, Secondary Series (710-760), Sceat, 'Celtic Cross', quilled serpent with pellet outline clockwise, globular head right, protecting small central cross pommรฉe, beak inwards to cross, rev. Celtic cross with central pellet forming a pellet cross, rosette in each angle, 1.14g ( Very rare.)

How rare is the rare sceat? Celtic cross is a spectacular find. Nice to hear Cru'dad got a hammered too!

Above in order are one of the measures they use but the 'numbers' for each category can vary depending on who's scale you use.

I've asked how many have been Recorded on the EMC, once I get this figure I will share with you. As a rough guide only 1 in 10 get Recorded, which would be close to the actually number at large.

If I had to guess, maybe 10 Recorded & 100 at large.

Nice digs. What do you suppose the square side of that one sceat represents? Almost resembles a Saxon settlement enclosure which Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s not

They call it VICO in the box, so they are like letters.
 

UPDATE:

''Many thanks for these two new finds.
I have recorded the Series E, VICO var. 2 and the Celtic Cross with Rosettes Group coin now has 6 coins in this group with this combination of obverse and reverse types.''


So the 6th Recorded, points towards around 60 other examples at large.
