This week, the heat here has been oppressive, so I confined my activities to the back yard where I could wimp out and run inside to cool off between holes. 🥵
I wasn't really hoping for anything in particular. I know our property was once part of a large farm, but everything within 200' of the road has been heavily developed, including many truckloads of topsoil hauled in about 40-50 years ago. Nevertheless, I switched over to the larger (13" x 11") coil and commenced to swinging...
Apart from a lot of canslaw and pieces of some kind of brass tubing, I found a contemporary (for 50 years ago) wire cutter/nipper, and a tow chain--12'-20' long, weighing about 75-80 lbs. The chain was down around 4"-6" deep, and pulling it out of the ground I felt (and must have looked) like Curly pulling wires out of the wall...
