The soccer field... it's NOT a Rolex
I would have liked to have posted these pics with text in between, to make a nicer fun story, but can't figure how to do it... so here it is in a lump.
first pic was yesterday's jaunt at the soccer field... guess it's fairly easy to tell, with the soccer charm thingy... and I found the back off a casio watch. probably the most expensive part of it!
As you can see, my spread is pretty good, I think. 5 nickels, 5 tabs, five quarters.
#2 is a different place.. I swept part of a large field I do periodically. I guess last time I used my notch machine! But someone HAD made a deposit of costume jewelry. Gosh that gold color looks good down in the hole!
And I was thinking, as I worked it up, slowly... there are stones that have fallen out... How am I going to find them?
I figured I would empty the milk jug of water that resides in my truck, axe the top off, and take a shovelfull of dirt from the hole in the turf and take it home for panning...
I'd go get dirt at a distant part of the park to clean up my larger plug excavation.
As it turned out, it's just base metal, NOT even gold plated, and the lost stones were most likely paste.
#3 is an Asian coin I skewered today... and I didn't have to dig halfway to China! It was 3" down.
$4 is the obverse of the coin which shows the Byodoin Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
It was once part of a wealthy estate, but was converted to a temple in 1052 by it's owner.
The coin itself is interesting, and current bronze issue...
...Japanese coins have no heads or tails to them...
The value is in Arabic, but the date is in kanji, which is Chinese.
Some dates use both kanji AND Arabic symbols.
The Japanese use the gengou dating system which is unique to Japan, and refers to the year of reign of their emperor. Recent one has been since 1989.
Well, this little bit of trivia came from 3" of digging... imagine if I had gotten halfway to China!
