The soccer field... it's NOT a Rolex

I would have liked to have posted these pics with text in between, to make a nicer fun story, but can't figure how to do it... so here it is in a lump.

first pic was yesterday's jaunt at the soccer field... guess it's fairly easy to tell, with the soccer charm thingy... and I found the back off a casio watch. probably the most expensive part of it!
As you can see, my spread is pretty good, I think. 5 nickels, 5 tabs, five quarters.

#2 is a different place.. I swept part of a large field I do periodically. I guess last time I used my notch machine! But someone HAD made a deposit of costume jewelry. Gosh that gold color looks good down in the hole!
And I was thinking, as I worked it up, slowly... there are stones that have fallen out... How am I going to find them?

I figured I would empty the milk jug of water that resides in my truck, axe the top off, and take a shovelfull of dirt from the hole in the turf and take it home for panning...
I'd go get dirt at a distant part of the park to clean up my larger plug excavation.

As it turned out, it's just base metal, NOT even gold plated, and the lost stones were most likely paste.

#3 is an Asian coin I skewered today... and I didn't have to dig halfway to China! It was 3" down.

$4 is the obverse of the coin which shows the Byodoin Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
It was once part of a wealthy estate, but was converted to a temple in 1052 by it's owner.
The coin itself is interesting, and current bronze issue...
...Japanese coins have no heads or tails to them...
The value is in Arabic, but the date is in kanji, which is Chinese.
Some dates use both kanji AND Arabic symbols.
The Japanese use the gengou dating system which is unique to Japan, and refers to the year of reign of their emperor. Recent one has been since 1989.

Well, this little bit of trivia came from 3" of digging... imagine if I had gotten halfway to China!

Cool finds!

The next time you post and want to put the pics in line with the text just hit the Inline Attachment (Camera icon with red line on left side) where you want the pic. You'll have to change the # of the pic though after the first one. The order of the pics that you attach run from top to bottom. Hope this helps, I really stink at trying to explain things... ;D

A ten yen coin! I lived in Japan for 9 years and my wife is from there as well. Been with her 32 years. Nice finds. Its hard to say how that one got there.

ROR(raffing out roud) You don't want to be even halfway to China these days. Bongo

Thanks all for looking at the post...
I just try to present an entertaining post with whatever I've generated from my digs...
Which frequently ain't much! ;D

Ivan, to be honest, all I knew was that it was an Asian coin... so I googled Japanese coin and quickly found it.
There was the interesting bit of info on it, so I thought I'd relay some of the trivia on...
Certainly nothing like the awesome work you've done! :)

Thanks Fisher! I shall give it a try! I looked for instruction, on the board, but couldn't locate any...

Crazyjarhead, Thank you for your service!
...The I guess you know that as opposed to us flipping a coin for a heads or tails decision, the Japanese prefer the Rock, Paper, Scissors method... or so that site said...
