I picked up my usual two boxes of halves Friday after work and Saturday I went bank hopping.
There are a few large Asian communities near where I live so I have been concentrating on their banks for the last couple of weeks. As I pointed out in an earlier message they tend to own small mom and pop types of stores that have a lot of cash transactions. I had $800 in cash to spend and spent $507 of it. I got 186 IKE dollars and $321 in loose and rolled halves. A lot of the Ike's were in hand made $25 rolls or taped up $5 piles (yes, sticky mess)
First let me tell what I found in the brinks boxes and loose halves from Saturday.
6 - 90% JFK
30 - 40% JFK (one was a silver bicentennial half)
11 - Franklins (one roll had 2 next to each other)
7 - Walking Liberty (one roll had 2 plus 2 - 40%)
Look at the date pattern on the good ones. (I did not record all the mint marks)
1941
1942 (2)
1943 (2)
1944
1945
1949
1951 (2)
1952
1953
1954
1957
1959
1960
1961
1962
The duplicates had different mint marks. Not one coin was repeated. That could only mean one thing, they were popped out of a coin album and spent all at once. Who knows if it was someone that inherited them and didn't know their value or they came from a stolen collection and used to buy their next bottle of ripple and a pack of smokes.
Now, I have kept the bast for last. Out of the 186 IKES that I bought (of course for face value) I am only going to keep two of them.
But they were not Ike's.
One is an 1886 Morgan Silver dollar and the other is a very beat up silver eagle. (one ounce of 999 fine silver)
I think this was my best weekend ever. I have found more coins (mostly 40%) but never silver value (probably $220)
I noticed there were several missing dates and mint marks in the halves. Monday I am going back to my bank and see if they just happen to have another box that was delivered at the same time as these. I wont count on it, but if they do, it's mine.
