Ok I'm super disappointed at the clarity of these pics- still can anyone else see the rarity for this area - northwest ga-

Is that gold? I want to go gold prospecting so bad and hear that North Ga is a good place to start. Not sure where to go and if detecting and panning in just any stream is allowed or what. I guess maybe I should join GPAA or do tons of research . I have a Garrett AT Gold metal detector and want to do prospecting with it for sure.

WVPapaw,

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm new to this, but live near the mulberry river in hall county. If you ever want to take a look let me know. I'm looking for gems now, but want to start panning for gold. I could use some info to get started.

I don't know what you are looking for but Georgia contains many many minerals. It depends what area you are in. Here is a link that wil help you figure out what is in the surrounding areas. Georgia, USA

I've found minuscule amounts of gold in just rock collecting from my area so my interest has spiked- I'm very close to the pine mountain gold museum in area- but most of the gold I've found in my backyard- in quarts - and I always fill a cup or two with rocks and sand when we visit the gold park- then inspect the lot of it when i get home- and only one time have I not found at least a spec In my pan once I got it panned out- they say only 20% of the god in this area has been mined-

I read that there were up to 20 mines in the Vila rica Douglas paulding area somewhere at one point- I'd like to learn where some were

if your asking what the stone was/is.. looks to a combo stone containing several types of minerals.. formost.. Mica.. Quartz and even some Muscovite..

As for the pics.. sure they could use a bit more lighting.. But I've realized with my new camera fujifilm xp 60 works better in the sunlight, than with my small light box.. Yet my old kodak was bass ackwards.. go figure..
