After a really slow start, I finally managed to make a good day out of it. I picked the vaseline glass and fire king jadeite stuff for $12.00. Should bring $250 or so. I got the handmade pitcher for $1, might get $15 for it. Got the danish modern lamp for $1, I expect $30-40 with the shade. The brass brass pheasants should bring $100 for the pair, paid $30. The 1969 corvette dash bezel should bring around $200, paid $5. The cast iron and porcelain la,p, I'm not sure what to call it or how much it will bring. I sort of want to say it's victorian, and may fetch $50. Paid $10. I also bought an Italian helmet by Nolan for $50 in nearly new condition, should bring $175 or so, but it's not pictured. The prints were $3 apiece. Any idea on the Japanese print and who the artist is? It's a very old wood block print and some of those are quite valuable. The dollar bills are a bonus that I didn't even know were in the lot until I got home. The story about them is in it's own thread. Hope y'all had as good of a day as I did!

The Japanese print type is called ukiyoe..first a question

Does the paper smell? A lot of the really old ones are made of mulberry wood and has a distinct smell. I have a triptych from the 1880's that reeks but at least I know its old.

The value of ukiyoe is entirely dependent on the rarity of the artist and the content. In some rare instances there is gold or silver mixed in with the paper. I can tell the content is fairly common and looks somewhat new. A rain scene like this usually fetches around $50-200 dollars. However, you still need to have it identified to make sure. the signature is almost impossible to read. I would look at similar works and try to match the signature. Also, ukiyoe is not meant to be hanged and framed like that. It is meant to go into a folder and be taken out every once in awhile (I know a very un-Western idea). I was really tempted to mount and frame my triptych but its not the right thing to do.

The brass birds, there was a pair of them at goodwill last week, they wanted $25 each! The two dollar bills are awesome!! You may want to get them authenticated and graded.

Jason4kstate, thanks! Yes, it does have a smell, but not a lot. I don't know what to compare the smell to, but it's a bit like a piece of wood but very light. When you mention gold or silver in the paper... would that be seen and obvious from the back side? On the back, I don't see anything like that, but I noticed when looking at the front, it seems to have just a little of a velvety sheen, sort of like what you see when looking at painted velvet.

I found out the artist is well known Hasui, and the title is Nissaka in Rain 1942. Looks like it might bring $200 or so.

The jadeite shakers, pitcher & compote look awfully new just like the newer Martha Stewart stuff (especially those shakers because of the lids) but also (color wise) they resemble the pre war jadeite color not the post war fire king jadeite color. The lid color doesn't match the bowl it's on, looks like a replacement, new reproduction or pre ww2 jadeite lid but the bowl its on is definitely post war fire king as is the spouted bowl with the handle. Pre war jadeite looks creamy & usually if not always has minor light swirls of darker green & a lighter green mix where as the post war fire king stuff is always a uniform solid jade color

I love the "vaseline" thousand eye bowl & would be interested in it for the right price! I have several similar green thousand eye pieces the best being an ice bucket & pitcher. tho I would never call that vaseline glass it's really green depression "uranium" glass as it's green, not the old pale straw yellow vaseline nor the newer more vibrant almost glowing yellow vaseline. All uranium glass isn't vaseline glass & I personally collect both types + the old original pre WWII formula jadeite & custard glass that has uranium in it too. That small canister is always an easy sell.

Don't know much about the prints but those bills are something else!

Yeah, thanks, I should have called it uranium glass. Glass isn't my strong area for sure (unless it's marbles), but I am familiar with the yellowish color of vaseline glass. The salt and pepper shakers are modern imports, but they still sell well. The "thousand eye" dish is available, pm me an offer and we'll see. My wife found one completed on ebay exactly like it, but I can't find it now. I'll have to ask what search parameters she used.

Thanks Mr.T. I can't find anything about the painter, but the name is M.S. Mines, and it's a painting of a covered bridge in Georgia.

Well, I fell short on the jadeite... got $99 for it. I had a lot of watchers, but it only sold for the opening bid. I didn't include the uranium glass in the lot, so I will make more there. Paid $9 for the jadeite alone, so no complaints. I sold the danish mod lamp over my estimate at $54.00. The other stuff isn't listed yet except the uranium glass.

Nice going, Cheese!

At least you are making money. That is something that isn't always easy in this economy.
