Saw this guy out my kitchen window yesterday morning. He or she? seems to favor the cottonwood tree leaves that have been blown off by this recent winter storm. Living here 30 years has sure produced many generations of bunnies under my porch. They're pretty safe, but every now and then some bird of prey, such as red tail hawks or great horned owls will nab one.

Do you ever feed them some carrots, table scraps during the winter?

They like alfalfa.

I like having animals around.
Far better than asphalt, concrete, cars, and homeless encampments.

The inner city is not to my liking.

I saw a mink in my lawn last night during the storm. Does that count?

I've never seen a mink.
But I saw a bear, and on the same day a badger.

I feed my squirrels peanuts every evening when I feed the fish & keets. We get tons of birds because I put out bird seed too. Jays steal the peanuts right from the squirrels! They all drive my cat crazy.

Years ago I tried an idea.
Early morning always saw plenty of squirrels scurrying around. I went to the store and bought some walnuts.
Come morning I sat out front and rubbed them together, and knocked them together. I got some attention from a
squirrel, but he stayed well away. I rolled a walnut toward him, about half the length of the driveway.
He ran off. After a few mornings I was able to draw squirrels in right off the bat. When I tossed a walnut
to them they would run to it, pick it up, and somehow put it in their mouth.
This became a daily thing. I would sit on the front porch, sip my coffee, and knock walnuts together.
It got to the point that squirrels would come up on the porch, sit on the bench I was sitting on, and
sit up waiting for me to hand them a walnut.

It was amazing that they could open their mouth big enough to hold a walnut.

Nice Bunny!

I like having animals around, too!

Please keep the bear.

I will do my best to keep it, although with hunting season upon us,, I worry that some "brave hunter" will shoot it. Hopefully he will stay on my 23 acres of woods where hunting isn't allowed.

I'd like to keep my fox, too!

I had lots of rabbits around my house too until the coyotes found them. The coyotes cleaned out the raccoons and the rabbits around here. Raccoons I don’t miss at all. Rabbits well the grand kids like to put carrots and cabbage out for them.

When I first moved to this neighborhood I would see fox sometimes crouching down in the yards waiting for the rabbits to come out from under a porch to nab. Most the the time I'd see them was when there were baby bunnies around. These days it's rare I see a fox, as so much development has replaced the open fields they could roam and I think that put them in a tighter confinement with the coyotes. I've seen quite a few torn up fox in what little open space is left around here now and one night I saw 4 coyotes in pursuit of a frightened fox in the headlights of my truck coming home. The fox was running straight at me and veered off maybe 20 feet in front of me and then the 4 coyotes behind were right in front of me. I stepped on the gas and they all turned and ran back towards the open space with my F250 just about ready to run over the slowest coyote before it took a hard left and got away. I saved that fox that night.
